A high-quality DBM which accepts all short-action AICS pattern magazines (223 / 308 / WSM) utilizing the Tikka T3 / T3x ‘CTR’ bottom metal inlet and sharing the same factory CTR appearance. This inlet is shared with other Tikka T3 / T3x variants that use this same bottom metal – the ‘Arctic’, ‘Wild Boar’ and ‘UPR’. However any Tikka T3 or T3x model will fit into a Tikka CTR stock and a number of stockmakers inlet in this pattern (see table at the bottom of this page). AICS magazines have a number of advantages over the CTR magazines. These include allowing a longer COAL, a lower price for comparable quality, being available to suit more cartridge case types, and being made by more manufacturers.

Fitting Guide

We supply this DBM in component form. It was initially designed as a wholesale product at the request of a few commercial stock manufacturers in Australia and Europe. The DBM is priced very competitively to reflect this and for the volumes we produce them in. Different makes and materials of stocks have minor variations to the spacing of the front and rear action screws (i.e. the pillar heights). For this reason fitting is required noting the steps below. If in doubt, we can provide advice via email but a competent gunsmith may be required to undertake the installation.

(1) The DBM is supplied completely unassembled, minimum tools required for assembly are:

3mm metric hex key

4mm metric hex key

small nylon punch

2mm (or 1.5mm) steel pin punch

flat smooth file

small wire cutters

nylon bench block

gunsmith’s hammer

(2) The magazine release lever is deliberately manufactured to the maximum possible length where, with the supplied pillars installed, AICS magazines just click in and the bolt just clears the feedlips. Many shooters will want a slightly looser fit than this, whereas some will not. We have tested this precise fit with multiple magazines from Accuracy International, Accurate Mag, Alpha Industries, Magpul, and MDT. For a reliable fit to your specific rifle the magazine lever may need to be filed down to lock in or otherwise suit your personal preferences. We recommend first assembling and testing the DBM to your rifle. If the lever is shortened, we recommend only taking 0.5mm off the tip before refitting and testing magazine function.

(3) The coil spring that provides tension to the magazine release lever is deliberately manufactured slightly longer than required and cannot be installed at full length. We supply 3 coil springs, only 1 coil spring is required. Use wire cutters to remove coils until you have achieved the tension preferred – which in most cases will be by removing between 3 to 5 coils. If you cut off too many and aren’t satisfied with the tension, you have 2 spare springs remaining. Test magazine release thoroughly based on your shooting style, with this design some shooters will remove magazines using their index finger (generally requires less tension) whilst others with their thumb (generally requires more tension).

(4) We recommend the installation of the pillars for any stock which does not have aluminum bedding or similar. This includes all the factory Tikka T3 / T3x stocks. Installing the pillars prevents over compression in laminate / walnut stocks and also removes other variables associated with the factory synthetic stocks caused due the molding process used to manufacture them. As outlined in #2, our design relies on accurate spacing which these pillars guarantee.

(5) Take care when assembling the magazine release lever, spring and dowel pin. Close attention is needed to avoid marring the anodized surface of the trigger guard when tapping in the dowel pin to secure the magazine release lever and the spring. Use a nylon punch to first get dowel pin in 95% of the way, then carefully use a 1.5mm or 2mm brass or steel pin punch to finish placing it with one firm tap. We recommend placing the trigger guard against a padded surface or on nylon bench block to drive in the dowel pin. Note that the dowel pin is splined on one side and is designed to sit slightly recessed from either face of the trigger guard.

(6) If any of these steps are unclear, we recommend taking your DBM to a gunsmith for installation.

7075-T76 Aluminum Alloy

Proudly designed and manufactured in the USA.

Due to demand, we’ve produced an oversized tactical knob made from high strength 7075-T76 aluminum alloy designed to fit all our bolt handles. This ubiquitous design is made from the best T76 temper that we can source and then mil-spec hard coat anodized (type 3) for durability. The threaded section is 1.2″ (30.5mm) deep, so it will shoulder up against every type of handle we’ve come across. The knob has 5/16″ x 24 TPI threads. Weighing in at just over 1oz (33.6g), our alloy knobs are CNC turned to tighter tolerances than what is possible with the molding process of our carbon fiber knobs. We manufacture these in significant volume to keep the price as low as possible. You would be hard pressed finding a stronger, harder and more durable alloy knob at this price.

Specifications

Material: 7075-T76 aerospace aluminum alloy

Finish: matte black, hard coat anodized type III

Thread: 5/16″ x 24 TPI (5/16 UNF) – fits most American bolt handles with a threaded end.

External trigger housing springs

This is a high quality replacement spring kit for your Tikka T3 / T3x trigger housing assembly (external springs). This kit is useful to have on hand due to damaged or missing components and are difficult to obtain without having to place a special order with Beretta. The magazine retention spring places tension onto the rear spine of the factory pattern magazines. This often is removed and can be misplaced when installing an AICS magazine DBM or changing from a stock to chassis system. The safety lever spring can be misplaced during cleaning and maintenance. Both springs are essential for safe function of the rifle and we include two of each to ensure you have spares.

Inclusions

2 x safety lever springs (this spring also fits the Tikka 558, 590, 595, 658, 690, and 695)

This kit comprises of both a replacement hammer spring as well as five different trigger springs ranging in pull weight from 1.25lb to 5lb. The hammer spring is made from stainless steel, and the trigger springs are made from spring steel then plated for both easy identification and to maximize corrosion resistance. This high quality set of six springs fits nearly all Remington pump and semi-auto rifles and shotguns – which use the trigger assembly as pictured. Aside from three lighter pull weights, the kit includes a factory weight spring should you wish to bring your trigger back to original specification, as well as a heavier spring for cold climate shooting with heavy gloves. The new hammer spring will both correct light primer strikes due to an old or worn spring as well as correct/improve lock time – the proper function of both being crucial for maintaining accuracy. If unsure on compatibility please contact us first to check. We measure the factory trigger at 4lb (based on the Remington 7600 rifle), the ratings below can vary slightly when fitted to different firearms* and when installed correctly**.

Ultralight 1.25lb to 1.5lb (black color)

Light 1.75lb to 2lb (silver color)

Medium ~3lb (grey color)

Factory ~4lb (charcoal color)

Heavy ~5lb (light blue zinc color)

Notes

Although the springs provided in this kit have been designed and tested by us to be safe, every trigger is different and it is imperative to ensure that your trigger is safe after installation. We have come across some very unsafe 1lb springs for this trigger assembly which although break at the advertised pull weight, will slam fire when working the action hard or when dropping the firearm onto the buttpad. Be vigilant with all trigger modifications and test thoroughly after reassembly! In our own tests, 1.25lb is the minimum pull weight that this trigger assembly will achieve by replacing the spring and polishing the sear and hammer. By replacing the trigger spring alone you can expect 1.5lb in an unmodified trigger assembly.

* Results may vary slightly between individual rifles and shotguns and are dependent on the trigger pull gauge, factory tolerances and whether any other modifications have been done to the trigger. Our pull weight is measured using an RCBS gauge.

** We supply replacement springs only. If unsure on installation, we highly recommend having a qualified and competent gunsmith do the job. Slight variations between different rifles and shotguns may result in an unsafe trigger when fitting these springs. Always ensure the firearm is unloaded before commencing work and test trigger function extensively upon reassembly whilst rifle is unloaded. Slam closing the breech bolt and dropping the firearm onto the buttpad (both whilst unloaded) is imperative.

Extractor and Ejector kit

This is a higher quality and lower cost alternative to the original factory ‘spare bolt parts‘ kit. There are six separate components to this kit. It is relatively easy to replace these components within a few minutes with basic hand tools when on an expedition or out in the field somewhere without workshop access. The kit can also be used for converting bolts utilizing a circlip extractor to a Sako style extractor system (gunsmith fitting required).

the ejector components can be used to convert your Tikka or Sako bolt face to dual ejectors, to change the ejection angle of spent cases and/or increase ejection force (gunsmithing required)

tools required are a small pin punch and small gunsmith’s hammer, magnetic parts dish optional

ensure the firing pin assembly has been removed from the bolt prior to driving out the ejector roll pin

care needs to be taken not to lose these small components when under spring pressure (try assembling within the confines of a large plastic bag)

This kit includes 3 trigger springs, ultralight, light and medium (1 of each). These springs will replace your original Tikka T1x, T3, T3x and Sako 75, 85, A7, S20 trigger spring and achieve a range of pull weights starting at 1lb which are repeatable, safe and break cleanly every time. This is compared to the factory spring which achieves at best 2lbs when adjusted to the minimum safe setting. These triggers are excellent for a factory produced rifle, and in our view it is well worth spending $15 to realise the pull weight you desire before investing hundreds of dollars on an aftermarket trigger.

Made from quality spring steel wire and plated for both easy identification and to maximize corrosion resistance. Our ultralight springs break cleanly and consistently at the listed pull weights* when installed correctly**. Further improvements are possible by polishing the internal trigger components with varying grits of rouge compounds on a sisal wheel / buff.

Tikka T3 and T3x

Striker spring kit / Firing pin kit

Experiencing light primer strikes or a complete failure to fire cartridges?

Already tried different brands of factory ammunition?

Already tried reloading with different primers?

Our striker spring for your Tikka T3 / T3x is longer than the OEM spring and is manufactured from high quality piano wire then zinc plated (silver color) to resist corrosion. We also include at no extra cost a higher power spring (gold color) made from thicker diameter wire which is approximately 10% stronger (if installed at full length). This higher power spring can be used to remedy primer ignition issues caused by insufficient spring pressure or for those competition shooters looking to chase faster lock times, however in many cases it will require between 1 to 4 coils cut off to function as desired in your rifle.

When stripping the bolt assembly for cleaning and maintenance, the striker pin is often overlooked. Our kit allows you to refurbish these critical components after a thorough cleaning rather than reinstall worn or damaged components. Keeping a spare set on hand (and the tools to change them) also serves as cheap insurance for any upcoming expeditions.

Contents

1 x ‘standard’ striker spring (27.2 coils, 1.4mm wire – silver color)

1 x ‘higher power’ striker spring (30.0 coils, 1.5mm wire – gold color)

1 x retaining collet

3 x 5mm snap rings

Construction

The striker springs are made from a high quality spring steel then zinc plated

The snap rings are made from stainless steel spring wire

The retaining collet is CNC machined from pre-hardened 17-4 grade stainless steel then TiN coated to the gold color (the original Tikka part is made from an aluminum alloy)

Recommended Tools for Workshop Installation

Engineers offset vise (to be modified as below, requires a hand drill and various HSS bits)

Small nylon-jawed pliers (we use bracelet bending pliers bought from ebay)

Small needle nose pliers

1200 to 2000 grit aluminum oxide paper

G96 gun treatment or a similar product

Microfibre cloth

Fitting Guide

This can be a difficult part to replace and is best done in a modified offset vise or a custom-made jig designed to compress the Tikka striker pin assembly safely. The disassembly then reassembly under spring pressure is what makes it difficult. The following steps are how we install this kit which is also shown in the image gallery. If in doubt we recommend a gunsmith installation.

Wear safety glasses and do not stand in front of the compressed striker pin assembly at anytime.

The striker pin can be compressed safely in a modified engineers offset vise (or similar). The vise will need a minimum of two small holes drilled in adjacent surfaces. The striker pin hole for assembly needs to be 5mm or 13/64″, and the cocking indicator hole needs to be 6.5mm or 17/64″ (see image gallery). The alignment of these holes needs to account for the offset of the cocking indicator to the striker pin axis (the cocking indicator orbits the striker pin). Drill the striker pin hole first then position the assembly to mark out the position for drilling the cocking indicator hole.

If your bench vise is made from thick material, we advise drilling a larger diameter hole just prior to the striker pin hole to accommodate the collet so that when the striker pin is compressed the snap ring is sufficiently exposed so that it can be pried out (see step #4).

Secure the striker pin assembly by inserting both ends into these holes ensuring a snug fit. Slowly close the vise jaws sufficiently to compress the striker spring so that the snap ring contained underneath the collet is exposed. We also drill a third, slightly larger striker pin hole (5.5mm) for the disassembly step which allows the snap ring to travel through the vise face but locks against the collet. This is optional but makes disassembly easier in our experience.

The snap ring can be pried open using the tips of two small stanley screwdrivers or a similar tool and then pulled out using nylon-jawed pliers.

Dispose of the old snap ring and slowly open the vise jaws, removing the striker pin assembly once the striker spring is fully decompressed.

Thoroughly clean the striker pin and other components to be retained, remove any burrs (see steps below in ‘Maintenance’). Our collets are turned to tighter tolerances than the Tikka factory part you are replacing, at this step we clean the striker pin with 2000 wet and dry after removing any burrs to ensure a tight but functional fit to the collet. The striker pin can be polished beyond this if desired.

Reassemble using our spring kit by repeating the process above however install the snap ring in front of the collet prior to inserting it back into the vise ensuring the striker pin is in the 5mm sized hole. The new snap ring will expand as it is pushed over the diameter of the striker pin and then close again once it reaches the slot.

Once the snap ring sits into the slot, use the nylon-jawed pliers to pull back the collet, then compress the snap ring using small needle nose pliers or a similar tool so that it can then fit under the new collet. Opening the vise whilst squeezing the edge of the snap ring will see it slide under the collet. Ensure the new snap ring is completely enclosed by the new collet.

Maintenance

Clean all scale and debris off the striker pin using a suitable gun solvent and then inspect the pin surface to ensure it is burr free. Any burrs can be removed to achieve a smooth/polished surface by starting with 1200 grit wet and dry paper then working up to finer grits from there. Using an ultrasonic cleaner works well for really dirty striker pins. Spray the striker pin with G96 and cleaning thoroughly using a microfibre cloth until it is touch dry, don’t apply grease anywhere. Our entire kit is made from high quality materials and is resistant to corrosion. Discoloration around the tip of the striker pin is normal and is due to the heat treatment applied during manufacture.

CNC machined from high-grade 7075-T76 aluminum alloy

Available in either silver or black color options, this bolt shroud is the perfect complement for your lightweight T3 or T3x build. At under 0.47oz (13.4g), our superlight shroud is less than half the weight of the factory diecast shroud on the T3x (1.07oz / 30.2g), and significantly stronger and harder than other aftermarket shrouds made from 6061 grade alloy. We machine the internals to tight tolerances which is instantly apparent by the lack of slop when removing your plastic (T3) or diecast (T3x) factory shroud and replacing it with ours. This is not just a decorative part, the shroud is designed to protect the shooter’s face in the rare event of a cartridge rupture or failure, where hot gas and powder debris can travel back through the bolt body via the firing pin hole. We manufacture these in significantly large enough volumes to keep the price as competitive as possible given the materials and tolerances involved.

Notes

All shrouds come with a small coil spring which is optional to install and is identical to the coil spring Tikka supplies as standard (ours is stainless steel). This spring takes up the slack of a necessary tolerance designed into the shroud to ensure proper function of your firing pin assembly across any Tikka T3 / T3x bolt assembly. Installing the spring will remedy any minor noise made by the shroud in this dimension when out hunting.

Our shrouds are CNC machined to a tolerance within +/- 0.05mm (approx +/- 2 thou) in the critical dimension that locks into the firing pin assembly. This dimension has been cut slightly deeper than required to account for variations discovered between different rifles tested. In an early production run we didn’t account for a tolerance here which resulted in this batch not fitting some of the rifles where assembly was attempted!

Construction

CNC machined from high grade 7075-T76 aerospace aluminum alloy

Completely skeletonized to save weight

Silver color shroud supplied as-machined, suitable for cerakote by your gunsmith or otherwise fitment to stainless rifles

Black color shroud is hard coat anodized, suitable for fitment to blued rifles (satin finish)

Coil spring is identical to the Tikka original spring, ours is made from stainless steel
