Why this took a helicopter to solve

It started in 2018, when the U.S. military asked PROOF Research to build barrels for the Apache’s cannon. That contract forced a full rethink of rifling profiles, twist rates, and barrel manufacturing.

By the early 2020s the same problem showed up in small arms: pushing chamber pressures toward 80,000 psi to get more energy on target. In a conventional barrel, the bullet is slammed into the rifling at a sharp angle and forced to full-speed rotation within a quarter inch of travel — a shock that spikes pressure, chews up the throat, and stresses the projectile. It only gets worse as pressures climb.

PXT changes the physics rather than just the materials. A dramatically shallower lead angle and a smoother rifling profile bring the bullet into rotation progressively instead of instantly, which is what drives the barrel-life and accuracy numbers above.

What’s landing in the first shipment
