PROOF Research was founded in Northwest Montana on a simple idea: apply aerospace-grade materials and science to barrel-making, and push accuracy, weight, and durability further than traditional manufacturing ever could. Every barrel starts life as a full-profile, match-grade 416R stainless steel blank, precision-turned and single-point cut rifled in-house.

The carbon fibre difference

The reduced-contour stainless blank is wrapped in aerospace-grade carbon fibre using PROOF’s patented process, with the wrap angle engineered to match the steel’s own rate of thermal expansion — so as the barrel heats up, nothing pulls against itself or shifts point of impact. The carbon fibre also diffuses heat along the length of the barrel the way fibre optics carry light, so these barrels run cooler and hold their zero longer through strings of fire.

Precision steel, still available

Not every build needs to shed every gram. PROOF’s stainless steel barrels are cut from the same match-grade 416R blanks and rifled on the same single-point cut equipment as their carbon fibre line, then lead-lapped for consistent bore geometry — the same accuracy pedigree, in a traditional steel package.
